Vietnam Trip Cost from India: The 2026 Budget, Line by Line

Flights, the e-visa, hotels, food, tours and Indian taxes, priced in rupees for 5- and 7-day trips, with routing from Indore and an honest package-vs-DIY comparison.

  • Updated 8 Oct 2026
  • 17 min read

A 7-night Vietnam trip from India costs about ₹50,000–74,000 per person on a budget and ₹86,000–1.32 lakh mid-range, including return flights from an Indian metro. A 5-night budget trip runs ₹40,000–54,000. These are twin-share, off-peak figures, and every price on this page was verified on 8 Oct 2026. Flights are the biggest single cost; on the ground, Vietnam is cheap for Indians. For quick conversions, drop three zeros from a dong price and multiply by 3.7, so 50,000₫ is about ₹186. Below, our travel desk in Indore prices each cost line and compares our Vietnam tour packages from India with planning the trip yourself.

At a glance

Return flights from a metro₹21,000–28,000₹25,000–35,000

What to add to these totals

On top of the table above (verified 8 Oct 2026): the Vietnam e-visa is ₹2,410 (USD 25) per person for single entry; peak season (mid-Dec to mid-Jan) adds ₹10,000–15,000 in fares and 10–30% on rooms; flying from Indore adds ₹6,400–13,000. Luxury trips run ₹1.2–2.0 lakh (5 nights) and ₹1.6–2.8 lakh (7 nights) per person.

What your rupee buys in Vietnam

On 7 Oct 2026, ₹1 bought about 269 Vietnamese dong (₫) and USD 1 cost ₹96.47. Every conversion on this page uses these two rates, so 1,000₫ is about ₹3.72 and 1,00,000₫ about ₹372. The dong moved between ₹0.0034 and ₹0.0037 during 2026, so re-check before you fly. For dollar prices, use our USD to INR converter.

Vietnam trip cost in Indian rupees, line by line

Two lines decide most budgets: the international flight and how you see Ha Long Bay. Below, each cost is priced in rupees for three styles. Budget means hostels or 2★ rooms, street food and group tours; mid-range means 3–4★ hotels and an overnight cruise; luxury means 5★ hotels, private cars and guides. Totals for 5- and 7-day trips follow further down.

Flights from India: direct routes and real fares

Six Indian cities have non-stop flights to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) this winter. No non-stop from India to Da Nang or Phu Quoc is scheduled for 2026, whatever older blogs say.

Budget ₹21,000–28,000 return from a metro, off-peak, booked 6–10 weeks out. Over Christmas and New Year it climbs to ₹35,000–40,000 (Kayak, 8 Oct 2026). VietJet's base fares usually exclude checked bags; one 2026 source quotes ₹2,000–4,000 each way for 20 kg.

Flying from Indore and other tier-2 cities

Indore (IDR) has no flight to Vietnam, so every trip from here starts with a domestic hop. On Oct 2026 fares, Ahmedabad is the cheapest gateway, and Vietnam Airlines adds Ahmedabad–Hanoi from 25 Oct 2026. Return totals per person:

  • Indore → Ahmedabad → Hanoi: about ₹3,200 one way domestic plus ₹21,342 international, so about ₹27,500–32,000.
  • Indore → Mumbai → Hanoi: about ₹5,600 one way plus ₹24,803, so about ₹36,000–40,000.
  • Indore → Delhi → Hanoi: ₹5,900–6,500 one way plus ₹27,530, so about ₹39,500–44,000.
  • Indore → Kolkata → Hanoi: ₹22,600 return from Kolkata on February dates; price the IndiGo Indore–Kolkata leg live.

That adds roughly ₹6,400–13,000 per person to the metro figures in this guide. From other cities without a Vietnam flight, the method is the same.

Self-transfer warning: on separate tickets you re-check bags and are not protected if you miss the connection. Leave 4–5 hours or more, or book one through-ticket (MakeMyTrip showed Hanoi–Indore via Delhi at ₹14,017 one way, Oct 2026).

Vietnam visa fee for Indians (2026)

Indians on ordinary passports need a visa for mainland Vietnam. The e-visa costs USD 25 for single entry or USD 50 for multiple entry on the official e-visa portal. That is about ₹2,410 or ₹4,820 at ₹96.47 to the dollar (7 Oct 2026), plus your card's markup, and it is not refunded if the visa is refused.

  • Validity and timing: up to 90 days. Processing is commonly quoted at about 3 working days (5–7 at peak), so apply two weeks ahead.
  • No waiver for Indians: India is not on Vietnam's 45-day visa-free list, and no waiver had been announced as of 3 Oct 2026.
  • Visa on arrival: air arrivals only, and it needs an agency letter (about US$6–30) plus a US$25–50 cash stamping fee. The e-visa is simpler and cheaper.
  • Lookalike sites charge US$50–80 or more. Use only evisa.gov.vn or thithucdientu.gov.vn.
  • Lost passport: Vietnam's exit permit takes 3–5 working days, so budget extra hotel nights.
The Phu Quoc visa-free trap. Phu Quoc island allows visa-free stays of up to 30 days only if you fly in direct from abroad, stay on the island and leave direct. A connection through HCMC or Hanoi does not qualify. India's Consulate General in HCMC (6 Jun 2026) calls it "strictly limited to … Phu Quoc Island only", with no entry to mainland Vietnam. Both Indian missions (Hanoi on 6 Apr 2026, HCMC on 6 Jun 2026) advise getting a visa anyway.

Hotels and hostels by budget

Per room per night, from Oct 2026 hotel searches and 2026 guides. Halve these for twin share.

  • Hostel dorm, Hanoi Old Quarter: US$6–10, about ₹580–965 per bed.
  • Budget guesthouse or 2★: 300,000–500,000₫, about ₹1,100–1,860.
  • 3★ city hotel: about ₹1,800–3,500.
  • 4★, Hanoi average: about ₹5,224 (Kayak India).
  • 5★, Hanoi average: ₹7,700–15,400, depending on the booking site.

Kayak's all-hotel Hanoi average ran from about ₹7,050 a night in July to ₹20,550 in April, and peak weeks add roughly 10–30%.

Food: street food, vegetarian and Indian meals

Per Numbeo's Hanoi data (5 Oct 2026), a meal at an inexpensive restaurant costs about 55,000₫ (₹205) and a mid-range dinner for two about 600,000₫ (₹2,230). Pho or a banh mi costs 30,000–60,000₫ (₹110–225).

Vegetarians do well in the big cities. Well-known Buddhist chay restaurants charge roughly 300,000–500,000₫ (₹1,115–1,860) a head. Hanoi, HCMC and Da Nang have Indian restaurants; a thali at one Hanoi restaurant is listed at 105,000–225,000₫ (₹390–840), and Indian food costs two to four times a local meal. Fish sauce goes into most dishes, so Jain travellers should pre-arrange meals.

Plan on ₹750–1,100 a day for street food, ₹1,500–2,250 if you mix in Indian or sit-down meals, and ₹3,700 or more for upscale dining (7 Oct 2026 rates).

Getting around: Grab, buses and domestic flights

Grab rides cost 30,000–70,000₫ (₹110–260) inside cities. From Hanoi airport to the Old Quarter, Bus 86 costs 45,000–50,000₫ (₹167–186), against 230,000–300,000₫ (₹855–1,115) for a Grab car (2026 prices).

Fly the long hops. Per Kayak India (8 Oct 2026), Hanoi–Da Nang started at ₹2,984 one way (typically ₹4,739–7,612), and Da Nang–HCMC at ₹4,043 (typically ₹4,935–8,362). Sleeper buses cost ₹930–1,300 for Hanoi–Sapa and ₹1,300–1,860 for Hanoi–Hue. Our Vietnam itinerary guide covers which legs to fly.

The biggest choice is Ha Long Bay. A day cruise suits a budget trip, while an overnight boat from ₹14,000 is the most expensive single activity on a mid-range trip, though it also replaces a hotel night.

SIM, eSIM and travel insurance

A tourist eSIM costs about US$4.50–6.50 (₹434–627) for 1 GB over 7 days, or US$22 (₹2,122) for 10 GB over 30 days (2026). Insurance quotes in Oct 2026 started at ₹395 for 4 days (US$50,000 cover, before GST) and ₹646 for 15 days (US$100,000 cover, age 35). Budget ₹500–1,500 a week if you are under 40.

Vietnam trip budget per day: backpacker, mid-range and luxury

A backpacker can keep the ground cost near ₹2,000 a day, which is why the flight dominates a budget trip. Each extra day on a longer trip adds about ₹2,400–3,900 on a budget or ₹4,500–7,500 mid-range.

5-day Vietnam trip cost from India

A 5-night, 6-day trip fits Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Ha Long Bay with no domestic flights. Budget travellers see Ha Long on a day trip; mid-range and luxury travellers spend a night on a cruise.

So ₹50,000 is enough for five budget nights from a metro off-peak, but not for mid-range, where the land cost alone reaches ₹40,000–64,000.

7-day Vietnam trip cost from India

Seven nights adds central Vietnam: Hanoi and Ha Long Bay, a flight to Da Nang for Hoi An and Ba Na Hills, then back to Hanoi or out through HCMC. Those two domestic flights are why it costs more than a 5-day trip plus two days.

Vietnam trip cost for a couple vs a solo traveller

Every figure here is per person in a shared twin room, so a couple simply doubles it: about ₹1.72–2.64 lakh for a mid-range 7-night trip for two, or ₹80,000–1.08 lakh for a budget 5-night trip (Oct 2026 prices). Solo travellers pay more only for the room. A dorm bed costs the same, but at mid-range the whole room adds about ₹5,000–16,000 over 5 nights and ₹7,500–16,500 over 7.

For couples who want the extras arranged, our Vietnam Couple EXCLUSIVE land package (6N/7D) starts at ₹55,985 per person, flights and visa extra (as of 8 Oct 2026). Our honeymoon packages cover other destinations.

Vietnam package vs DIY: which is cheaper?

All three Traverse Vietnam departures are land packages: international flights and the visa fee are extra. For a like-for-like comparison, the table adds the same flights and e-visa to both sides, plus 5% GST on the package.

Both sides use a ₹21,000–28,000 metro return and the ₹2,410 e-visa; open-jaw tickets can cost more. GST is added in case your quote excludes it. DIY uses this guide's prices, before card markup. *Confirm internal flights on your quote; if extra, add ₹3,500–7,500 (Hanoi–HCMC) or ₹6,500–11,000 (two legs, Coast to Culture).

  • Escape to Vietnam: 3 Hanoi nights, a shared overnight Ha Long cruise, a Ninh Binh day tour with the Tam Coc boat, airport transfers and visa assistance.
  • Couple EXCLUSIVE: 2 Hanoi nights, a Ha Long cruise night, 3 HCMC nights, city tours, water puppets, Cu Chi Tunnels, private transfers and a candle-light dinner.
  • Coast to Culture: 7 nights in Phu Quoc, Da Nang and Hanoi, most meals, the Hon Thom cable car, VinWonders, Ba Na Hills and a Ha Long day cruise.

The honest verdict: a careful DIY traveller can undercut each package at the low end, mostly with cheaper rooms and shared tours; at the same hotel and cruise standard, the totals land close together. The package adds a vetted cruise, one rupee payment, visa handling and someone on the ground when a transfer goes wrong.

Taxes: packages carry GST, generally 5%, and TCS on overseas tour packages (2% from 1 Apr 2026, per current practice — confirm with your agent/bank). TCS is an advance tax that shows in your Form 26AS and can be adjusted against income tax. DIY card spends usually carry a 3.5% markup plus 18% GST on it, about 4.13%, unless your card is zero-forex. For your own dates, see all our Vietnam tour packages from India.

Money tips: cards, ATMs, cash and UPI

  • Cards: a 4.13% markup costs ₹4,130 on ₹1 lakh of spending (2026 card terms). Some Indian cards now advertise zero forex markup, so check yours.
  • ATMs: VPBank is most often cited as fee-free for foreign cards, up to 10,000,000₫ (about ₹37,190) a withdrawal. TPBank stopped being free in June 2025; others charge 20,000–55,000₫ (₹75–205).
  • Pay in dong: when an ATM or card machine offers to charge you in INR, decline it and choose VND.
  • Cash and UPI: carry dong for street food and markets. Rupee notes are not accepted, and UPI is not live; NPCI International and Vietnam's NAPAS signed only an agreement (MoU) in May 2026.
Declare large amounts of cash. Cash over USD 5,000 (or the equivalent) or over 15,000,000₫ must be declared to customs on entry or exit (SBV Circular 15/2011/TT-NHNN). It is a duty to declare, not a limit.

How to cut your Vietnam trip cost

  1. Fly in February. Kolkata–Hanoi had a February median of ₹21,061 against ₹39,814 in December (Kayak, 8 Oct 2026).
  2. Use Ahmedabad or Kolkata as your gateway: the two cheapest non-stop returns we found (₹21,342 and ₹22,600).
  3. Book 6–10 weeks out, and price the checked bag before picking a low-cost fare.
  4. See Ha Long on a day cruise (₹3,400–11,600) rather than overnight (from ₹14,000).
  5. Don't count on the Phu Quoc waiver. It applies only if you fly in direct from abroad, stay on the island and leave direct, and both Indian missions advise the e-visa anyway.

Is Vietnam cheaper than Bali?

On entry costs, yes. Vietnam's e-visa is USD 25 (about ₹2,410); Bali's visa on arrival (IDR 500,000) plus its IDR 150,000 tourist levy come to about ₹3,600–3,700 (2026 rates). Vietnam also has non-stop flights from six Indian cities. Bali is the better pick for a beach-villa holiday; see our guide to places to visit in Bali. We haven't priced Thailand line by line here, so ask us for current Thailand package prices.

Frequently asked questions

  • How much does a Vietnam trip cost from India?

A 7-night Vietnam trip from India costs about ₹50,000–74,000 per person on a budget, ₹86,000–1.32 lakh mid-range and ₹1.6–2.8 lakh for luxury, including return flights from a metro. A 5-night trip costs ₹40,000–54,000 on a budget and ₹65,000–99,000 mid-range. These are twin-share, off-peak figures verified on 8 Oct 2026.

  • Is ₹50,000 enough for a Vietnam trip?

Yes, for 5 to 6 days on a budget, flying from an Indian metro outside peak season; that trip costs ₹40,000–54,000 per person with flights (Oct 2026 prices). It is tight for 7 days, where two domestic flights push a budget trip to ₹50,000–74,000, and not enough for mid-range.

  • What does a Vietnam trip cost for a couple from India?

Double the per-person figure, since it already assumes a shared twin room. A mid-range 7-night trip for two costs about ₹1.72–2.64 lakh with flights from a metro, and a budget one about ₹1–1.48 lakh (Oct 2026 prices). Peak season adds ₹20,000–30,000 for two in airfares alone.

  • What is the Vietnam visa fee for Indians in 2026?

The Vietnam e-visa costs USD 25 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry: about ₹2,410 and ₹4,820 at ₹96.47 to the dollar (7 Oct 2026), plus card markup. It is valid for up to 90 days, and processing is commonly quoted at about 3 working days. Apply only at evisa.gov.vn; lookalike sites charge US$50–80 or more.

  • Is Vietnam visa-free for Indians?

No, not for mainland Vietnam: Indians on ordinary passports need an e-visa. The one exception is Phu Quoc island, visa-free for up to 30 days if you fly in direct from abroad, stay on the island and leave direct. A connection via Hanoi or HCMC does not qualify, and India's missions advise a visa anyway.

  • Are there direct flights from India to Vietnam?

Yes. As of Oct 2026, non-stops link Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad with Hanoi, and Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad with Ho Chi Minh City. There is no non-stop from India to Da Nang or Phu Quoc, and none from Indore, which connects via Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi or Kolkata.

  • Is Vietnam cheap or expensive for Indians?

Vietnam is cheap on the ground; getting there is the expensive part. A local meal costs about ₹205, a Grab ride ₹110–260 and the Trang An boat ₹930 (Oct 2026). The return flight, at ₹21,000–28,000 from a metro off-peak, is the biggest single cost, roughly 35–55% of a budget trip.

  • Which is cheaper, Bali or Vietnam?

Vietnam is usually cheaper to enter: its e-visa costs USD 25 (about ₹2,410), while Bali's visa on arrival plus tourist levy come to about ₹3,600–3,700 (2026 rates). Vietnam also has non-stop flights from six Indian cities. Bali is the better pick for a beach-villa holiday where the stay is the main event.

  • Is a Vietnam package cheaper than planning it yourself?

Not always. Our three Vietnam land packages start at ₹34,852, ₹55,985 and ₹59,999 per person, flights and visa extra (as of 8 Oct 2026). DIY can be cheaper with budget rooms and shared tours; at the same standard the totals come out close. Packages also carry 5% GST and TCS, an advance tax.

  • How much cash should I carry to Vietnam, and can I use UPI or rupees?

Carry enough dong for street food and markets, and use a zero-forex card for hotels. Withdraw at fee-free ATMs such as VPBank, and always choose to be charged in dong. UPI is not live in Vietnam and rupee notes are not accepted. Cash above USD 5,000 or 15,000,000₫ must be declared at customs.

  • Is vegetarian food easy to find in Vietnam, and what does it cost?

Yes, in the big cities. Buddhist "chay" restaurants serve vegetarian Vietnamese food, and Hanoi, HCMC and Da Nang have Indian restaurants; a thali at one Hanoi restaurant costs about ₹390–840 (converted 7 Oct 2026). Indian meals cost two to four times a local one. Fish sauce is in most dishes, so Jain travellers should pre-arrange meals.

  • What is the cheapest month to fly to Vietnam from India?

February is usually the cheapest. On 8 Oct 2026, Kayak showed a February median of ₹21,061 for Kolkata–Hanoi returns and a February average of ₹27,818 from Delhi, against about ₹39,800 on both routes in December. Mid-December to mid-January, Tet and Diwali are the dearest times.
