Planning your Kashmir trip
Snow-dusted meadows, mirror-still lakes and valleys that turn from tulip-pink in spring to deep white in winter — Kashmir earns its “paradise on earth” billing in every season. Our Kashmir tour packages link the headline experiences — a shikara glide across Dal Lake, the Gulmarg gondola, and the alpine valleys of Pahalgam and Sonmarg — with comfortable stays, private transfers and a local team who know the roads. Here is why to go, what to see, how to reach the valley, and what it costs.
Why visit Kashmir
Few destinations pack this much variety into a single short trip — lakes, meadows, snow and gardens all within a few hours’ drive of Srinagar.
- Dal Lake — a shikara ride at dawn and a night on a carved houseboat are the trip’s defining moments.
- Gulmarg — ride the gondola, one of the world’s highest cable cars, over flower meadows or fresh snow.
- Pahalgam & Sonmarg — pine valleys, river walks and pony trails just a half-day from the city.
- Mughal gardens — terraced Nishat, Shalimar and Chashme Shahi frame the lake with fountains and chinar trees.
- No visa, easy access — it’s a domestic trip with direct flights, so you’re in the mountains the same day.
What to see & where to go
Most itineraries base in Srinagar and add day excursions to the valleys — here is how the classic circuit fits together:
- Srinagar: Dal Lake shikara, a houseboat night, the Mughal gardens and the old-city markets.
- Gulmarg: the gondola, open meadows and, from December, skiing and snow play.
- Pahalgam: Betaab Valley, Aru and Chandanwari — pine forests and the Lidder river.
- Sonmarg: the “meadow of gold”, gateway to Thajiwas glacier and summer pony rides.
How to reach Kashmir
Kashmir is a domestic trip, so there’s no visa to arrange. Fly into Srinagar Airport (SXR), with direct and one-stop flights from Delhi, Mumbai and other major metros — most itineraries begin with a transfer straight to your Dal Lake houseboat or hotel. From Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg are all comfortable day or overnight drives, which we arrange with a private vehicle and driver.
Best time to visit Kashmir
| Season | Weather | Why go |
|---|---|---|
| Mar – May (Spring) | Cool & blooming | Tulip gardens and orchard blossom in full colour — the prettiest season for gardens and meadows. |
| Jun – Aug (Summer) | Mild & green | A pleasant escape from the plains’ heat; ideal for Sonmarg, Pahalgam and high-meadow walks. |
| Dec – Feb (Winter) | Cold & snowy | Snow blankets the valley — Gulmarg turns into a ski resort and the gondola runs over white slopes. |
Kashmir packages — FAQs
How much does a Kashmir tour package cost from India?
Kashmir packages typically range from ₹11,600 to ₹25,400 per person on a twin-sharing land basis for a 5–8 night trip, depending on the season, your stay category and how many valleys you cover. Flights to Srinagar can be added — share your dates and group size for an exact quote.
Do I need a visa or permit for Kashmir?
No. Kashmir is part of India, so Indian travellers need no visa or special permit — just a valid photo ID for hotel and houseboat check-in. You can fly into Srinagar and be on Dal Lake the same day.
What is the best time to visit Kashmir?
It depends on what you want. March to May brings tulips and spring blooms, June to August is mild and green — a cool escape from the heat — and December to February delivers snow and Gulmarg skiing. We plan the itinerary around the season you travel.
How do I reach Kashmir?
Fly into Srinagar Airport (SXR), which has direct and one-stop flights from Delhi, Mumbai and other major metros. From there we arrange private transfers to your houseboat or hotel and on to Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg.
How many days do you need for Kashmir?
A focused Srinagar-and-Gulmarg trip works in 4–5 nights. To add Pahalgam and Sonmarg at a relaxed pace, we recommend 6–8 nights, which is also our most-booked Kashmir itinerary.
Is Kashmir good for honeymoons and families?
Very. Couples love the houseboat stay and shikara evenings, while families enjoy the gondola, pony rides and snow play. We tailor stays and pacing — including a dedicated Kashmir honeymoon package — to your group.
